About Us

CJ Quarter Horses was founded in 1987 by Jim and Cati Beaty. Dr. Jim and Dr. Cati are both veterinarians at their local practice, Lakeview Veterinary Clinic, in Mitchell, SD.

Jim grew up with horses and Cati married into a family of horse enthusiasts. In the early days of CJ Quarter Horses, they had a couple of good mares and chose a couple of good stallions to start their small herd.

This small herd is how their daughter Caitlin fell in love with horses. She grew up surrounded by them and showed and rodeo-ed in a variety of organizations. Her involvement in the equine industry sparked her interest in breeding quality horses. Since she started college, she became actively involved in the breeding program from selecting the best stallions to assisting in sales.

Together the Beaty family is invested in breeding and raising quality horses. To them, their horses are part of the family and they strive to find you the best addition to yours.
